EP2: How to Think in English
One of the biggest breakthroughs in language learning is the moment you start thinking in your target language instead of translating from your native tongue.
Why Thinking in English Matters
When you translate in your head, you create a bottleneck. Your brain has to process the thought in your native language, translate it, and then speak. That's three steps instead of one.
Techniques to Start Thinking in English
Narrate Your Day
As you go about your day, describe what you're doing in English — even if it's just in your head. "I'm making coffee. The water is boiling. I need to add milk."
Label Your Environment
Look around your room and name everything in English. Then describe them: "The blue chair is next to the window."
Dream Journal
Keep a journal in English. Write about your dreams, your day, your thoughts. Don't worry about grammar — just write.
Consume English Content Without Subtitles
Challenge yourself to watch shows or listen to podcasts without subtitles in your native language. It forces your brain to process English directly.
It Takes Time
Don't be frustrated if this doesn't happen overnight. It's a gradual process. One day you'll catch yourself thinking in English without even trying — and that's when you'll know you've crossed a major milestone.
Keep going. You're closer than you think.
